Review
"Bob Flaws has once again produced an excellent book, this time for the layperson. Clear, concise, and easy to read, he presents a clear background to Chinese medicine so that the layperson can understand the basic principles of diagnosis, treatment, and etiology. He explains how one might do a self-diagnosis if they are unable to find a trained practitioner. He then details the various therapies available. There is a good discussion of deep relaxation. Other home remedies that he covers are Chinese aroma therapy, magnet therapy, light therapy (sunbathing), hydrotherapy, self-massage, flower therapy, and thread moxibustion.
Bob also provides information on Chinese medical research on PMS, how to find a qualified professional practitioner, further reading in the form of an annotated bibliography, a glossary, and an extensive book list.
This book is well balanced between explaining the concepts of Chinese medicine in its own terms and using language that the layperson can understand. He gives plenty of information that is extremely useful. This is one of a new series from Blue Poppy Press. The other titles include hayfever, arthritis, insomnia, depression, headaches, menopause, and breast health. -- From the Shiatsu Alumni Guild Newsletter, November, 1997
