TCM Study Guide Series: Herbology, volume 2 is the fourth and most ambitious book in the TCM Study Guide Series. Its companion, volume 1, provides 3,500 multiple-choice questions on the herbs and herbal formulas used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Volume 2 tests the knowledge of TCM students and practitioners in a different way through the practical methodology of clinical cases. The scope of these two volumes reflects Shi Cun Wu's continuing dedication to the study and clinical practice of TCM herbology throughout his long career in China and the United States. The more than two hundred and fifty cases covered in Volume II are drawn from Wu's practice, from that of his colleagues in China, as well as from Chinese college texts and licensing exams. The cases are organized into twelve sections, the first eleven of which represent different types of disorders (Disorders Caused by External Evils, Disorders of the Lung, etc.). Each case describes a clinical situation. The questions that follow it guide one through the process of determining the diagnosis, treatment approach, and herbal prescription. The majority of the cases utilize multiple-choice questions. The last section contains nineteen cases with open-ended questions, which challenge the reader to develop his or her own answers without the assistance of alternate choices. The comprehensive exam that follows the cases provides a final chance to test the full breadth of one's knowledge of TCM herbs, formulas, and treatment. Special attention has been devoted to the section of resource material in Volume 2. It includes resources to help research and answer questions in both volumes. These resources can also be useful when studying in preparation for examinations.
