Foot Reflexology
Reflexology can be described as a drug-free form of managing and alleviating physical and stress-related conditions. It has been found to work best when the applications are consistent, and has gained popularity because it can be self-applied practically anywhere. Reflexology uses many basic massage techniques, but focuses on principles similar to acupuncture, such as using the thumb and fingers to find spots on your feet and hands which are considered to "reflect" important bodily organs.
How does the Walking Mat Work?
The StreamBed Foot Reflexology Walking Mat's walkway is designed to emulate ancient stone reflexology pathways found throughout Asia. Foot Reflexology is an applied pressure therapy that involves stimulating reflex points on the foot. The foot acts as a map of the entire body, where the reflex points correspond to vital organs, muscles and glands. Over time, gravity causes a substance called uric acid to settle in reflex points of the foot. Uric acid, when concentrated, produces a cord, or granule-like bubble that may be painful upon stimulation. The reflex points have also been considered to help regulate hormone imbalances via nerve/brain pathways, thus creating a sense of calm, energy, clarity and vitality.
Walking on streambed-like walking paths or mats is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and principles of reflexology. The uneven stones' surfaces stimulate "acupoints" on the soles of the feet. A 2005 scientific study by the Oregon Research Institute (ORI) found that "walking on the river rock-like surface of these manufactured ... mats improved participants' balance, ... mobility, as well as reducing their blood pressure. These issues are highly important for preventing and delaying the onset of frailty among older adults, as well as helping them maintain their current health status."
DIRECTIONS
Use the Acupressure Mat whenever your muscles ache or when your joints feel stiff. When your body is relaxed it is better able to heal and recover.
Walk on the SteamBed Reflexology Walking Mat for 20-40 minutes as needed, preferably at least a couple of times a week.
You can use the Acupressure Mat every day.
It is recommended to wear socks for first time use.
It should feel ‘nicely painful’ to achieve its effect.
We all have different pain thresholds, so most of us will need to adjust the effect at first by putting a cloth or thin towel on the mat to soften the pressure of the knobs.
Try it out until you find the right level of sensation. The "knobs” of the mat have a rounded surface and cannot harm you.
